Hiroshima

Hiroshima plays an important role in world history. A pivotal event that lead to the end of a devastating war cost the lives of a lot of people living in this area. Now, Hiroshima is a beacon of hope and an advocate that makes sure no one has to go through a similar event ever again. But underneath all the rubble and devastation caused by the atomic bomb, it is easy to forget that Hiroshima is also a place filled with culture and tradition. Hiroshima was a castle town that achieved amazing feats. They created land reclamation projects during the Edo period that greatly drove the population and number of settlements upwards. An island dedicated to worship and spiritual tradition was built and maintained and is now one of the most beautiful sights in the entire country.

Personally, Hiroshima was always one of the areas on my Japan travel bucket list because of it’s historical connection to Philippine history. We were taught growing up that the Atomic bomb was the event that lead to the end of the Japanese occupation in the Philippines. Being able to visit the site of the bombing adds new perspective to that piece of history.
